Nimba County Prison Inmates

Regardless of when my preferred bedtime lies,
The lights are replaced at nine with bloodcurling cries
In the dark of the night the screeching only gets higher
I make yet another mark to join the 56 prior
Each day I plea for freedom, a prisoner to no crime
Looking for the real reason I’m serving this time
Believe it: I was actually captured in the night by men in black
Lickety-split, a sack over my head — too weak to fight back
My experience has been arduous, my life an unfortunate blight
To escape would be marvelous, through the golden gate take flight
I would soar above my cage, leaving a torturous toddler below
Hoping to resume a normal life as I sail out the window
